Loose fiber does not always stay where it's placed! You did a beautiful job anyway.

I started with loose fiber. I layered three different colors together in a what was sort of an attempt at purposeful placement but in reality the color variation took a life of its own through the course of the process.

Did you begin with already felted sheets or loose alpaca fiber?

The owner of the farm/teacher of the class had a form already made that I used for the class. It was cut out of heavy duty shelf liner (or anything that is a little pliable and waterproof would work) in the shape of a vase with a slight bell at the bottom and a subtle curve out at the top. It was a loose outline of a wine bottle but had a wider mouth. Once through the felting process I formed the shape around a slightly larger wine bottle while still wet (this allows space for wine bottles to fit). The last thing I did was cut the top to have the changes in the rim in an over-sized scallop...more or less...so that when I folded it down to sew the buttons it had a unique shape. Hope that helps and hope it makes a little sense. :-)
