Welcome to the third “It’s a Trendy Tuesday” in 2011 and today’s topic is creative ceilings. Tuesdays are all about what I see swirling around in the design world when it comes to trends and what’s the next thing in home design. Anything from furniture and accessories to color and style may pop up for discussion. If it is “it” then I’ll share it here on a Tuesday.
Today’s Trendy Tuesday is all about the sexy ceiling. No more painter’s white ceilings please! It’s your chance to get creative, add comfort, create a unique space that reflects your signature style and most importantly with this trend… do it with wallpaper.
I touched on this a few weeks ago in my post “Don’t Forget About the Ceiling” but I wanted to revisit it today and focus on some unique, fresh, and inspirational ideas that take this concept to the next level with wallpaper. Hopefully this will help you think outside the beige box and add something different than a white lid to your room.
This is my space was designed by one of my favorite designers, Sarah Richardson. Pushed the lingering trend of wallpaper up a notch by applying it to the ceiling of this super cool nursery.
Talk about reflecting your signature style! Check out this space from the home of designer Kelly Wearstler. The paper is also her custom design… it has her style written all over it.
Like this trend but want something a little more subdued? This entry way is a great example of adding a touch of style in a more subtle way. Pick an understated pattern or stay within a monochromatic color scheme and you will still be on trend as well as reflect you in your home instead of trying so hard to be cool (because the sexy ceiling really is just cool no matter what you do).
For a nice balance of it all I love this space. Simple in style throughout you can’t help but look up at the only use of visual texture in the room. Perfect!
I’m so glad that wallpaper hasn’t faded away yet as a trend and I’m even more excited that it has been stepped up and added to the ceiling. A word to the wise only the brave should take this trend on because it will create achy necks and once it is up you won’t want to take it down any time soon. Pick something you love and only try this trend if you feel it really is you (then you can’t go wrong).
